BINDERS Buckhead Presents:

Mondays, November 2 – 23, 6 – 8pm
4 Sessions | All Levels | Price: $140 | Limit 10

The best way to learn any art is to copy from those in the past that have already mastered techniques. This is true for music, dance and painting. This course will provide students with hands on learning techniques under the guidance of a teacher with 25 years of experience. The student will understand brushstroke, design elements, color technique and the media that the original artist rendered on canvas. The result is a smoother transition when creating original artwork by the student. *This class is designed for acrylics.

WEEK ONE: Looking at images of modern masters of painting from 1900 on and understanding the history of why painting changed so dramatically at that turn of the century. Understanding the basic concepts of what makes a painting work to the eye: color theory, design concepts, under painting, the importance of the brush stroke and psychological content. Beginning the under painting of the assigned master copy.

WEEK TWO: Continuing to lay in the under painting. Noticing the importance of the intentional color placement on the picture plane. Beginning to walk through the process of the over painting.

WEEK THREE: Full steam ahead on the over painting. Correcting and tweaking. Understanding how to hold a brush and how to emulate what the original artist was trying to do.

WEEK FOUR: Finishing up the painting. Observing how important those final color placements are. If the student is ready, they will be given a quick 2 hour painting to render. This is a fun exercise to quickly ending with confidence pulling a painting together while understanding the values of painting standards - whether you are painting an Old Master or New Master copy - or painting your own work.
