This workshop uses the still life as subject. Students will explore the means to achieve a believable realistic pastel painting through these elements: value, color, edges, pastel quality and strokes on paper. Emphasis will be placed on working with a concept, a plan to prepare, and then realize a painting. Demonstrations/critiques will focus on the relationships of size/ placement of objects, the idea of air and space around objects, values and the role of temperature when thinking about color, to create a unified picture beyond the literal subject matter, and, to move beyond copying the surface of things.
